-Doctor Who in Sculpture: 1963 to 2013-
And so on to February, the second month of the year, and so fittingly time for the Second Doctor. Played by Patrick Troughton.
The Second Doctor’s tenure lasted from 1966 to 1969, an era that has come to be known as “The Monster Era” for the sheer volume of horrible monsters and aliens pitted against the Doctor.
Not only the Daleks, but Cybermen, Ice Warriors, Yetis, Macra and all other manner of Space-Thuggery. Not to mention a brown horse painted white with a horn stuck on it’s head to look like a Unicorn. It was also during this period that UNIT, the United. Nations. Intelligence. Taskforce, lead by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (Who had gone up in the world) came to the fore as the Earth’s first line of defence against the Nasties from Outer-Space…when the Doctor wasn’t around of course.
This Doctor was scruffy, fearsome, whimsical and had the air of a magician. A man who could produce anything from his pocket and had a charmingly cheeky glint in his eye.
The “Cosmic Hobo” as he is affectionately termed.
I wanted to capture, in this sculpt, Troughton’s mischievous grin with a sparkle in his eyes, hopefully that is what I achieved.
Made this sculpt a couple years ago and I feel it does the trick very nicely indeed.
And so on to March, the third month, the month of the Third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee….
See you there
